House Cleanout Planning Guide

Planning a cleanout can feel like a lot. Here's how to get a quote, sort what's there and know what to expect when the crew shows up.

How to get a quote

The quickest way is to call and describe the house. How many rooms? Is there a garage, basement or attic? Is it the whole place or just a few spaces?

Photos help a lot. A picture of each room, the garage and the yard gives a much better idea than a description alone.

Quotes are free, so there's no harm in asking before you've decided anything.

What affects the price

Every job is different, so the price depends on the house. These are the things that usually matter most:

  • Volume: how much stuff there is overall
  • Weight and type: appliances and heavy furniture take more effort than boxes
  • Access: stairs, basements, long carries and tight parking
  • Sorting: how much needs to be separated for donation and recycling
  • Extra spaces: the garage, attic, shed and yard

Deciding what stays ahead of time, or moving out the things you're keeping, can shrink the job.

A simple sorting checklist

You don't need to sort everything. But one pass through the house with this list in mind can save real headaches later.

  • Important papers: wills, deeds, titles, tax records and bank statements
  • Photos, letters and family keepsakes
  • Jewelry, cash and anything small and valuable
  • Keys, remotes and garage door openers
  • Medications
  • Anything promised to family or friends

Check drawers, closets, coat pockets and old boxes. Things get tucked away in odd places, especially in a house someone lived in for a long time.

Keep, donate or toss

Keep

Things you'll actually use, things with real sentimental value and anything you're unsure about right now. You can always decide later.

Donate

Furniture and household goods in usable shape. We set these aside for local charities so they get another life.

Recycle or toss

Metal, electronics and appliances get recycled. Broken, stained or worn-out items nobody can use go to the transfer station.

What to expect on the day

The crew arrives with the trucks and works room by room. If you're there, you can point out anything that's staying. If you're not, we work from what you told us ahead of time.

Usable items go in the donation pile, recyclables get pulled out and the rest is loaded up. When we're finished, the house is left broom-clean.

Want to keep an eye on things? You're welcome to stay and watch, or check in by phone. If you change your mind about an item halfway through, just say so before it goes on the truck.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need to be there?

No. You can be there or not. If you won't be, leave a key or door code and walk us through what's staying before the day.

Can you clear just one room?

Yes. We do whole houses, but we're just as happy clearing a single room, a garage or a basement.

What happens to the things you take?

Usable furniture and household goods go to local charities. Metal, electronics and appliances are recycled. Only true trash goes to the transfer station.

Can you work around my move or closing date?

Yes. Let us know when your movers are coming and when you need the house empty, and we'll plan around it.

I'm a landlord. Can you confirm the job without me driving over?

For rentals and listings, we send photos when we're done. If the garage or yard needs another visit later, we can come back for it.

Should I clean before you come?

No need. Just set aside or mark what you're keeping. We leave the house broom-clean, so if you want a deeper cleaning after, plan that separately.

What areas do you cover?

Boise and the surrounding Treasure Valley, including Meridian, Nampa, Caldwell, Eagle, Garden City, Kuna, Star and Middleton.
